It is noted that it delivered within the framework of DTEK’s agreements with international suppliers on the import to Ukraine of seven ship shipments with coal from the USA and Colombia.

The second vessel with American coal has arrived in Ukraine; the cargo of fuel onboard is intended for the enterprises of DTEK, which are part of the holding of entrepreneur Rinat Akhmetov. This was announced on Sunday by the press service of the company “DTEK Energy.”

“The second Panamax-class vessel with American coal has arrived in Ukraine. It delivered within the framework of DTEK’s agreements with international suppliers on the import to Ukraine of seven ship shipments with coal from the USA and Colombia. The total volume of the second delivery is 66 thousand tons,” the report says.

This coal is expected to arrive at the warehouses of DTEK power plants in the near future. “Despite the very difficult conditions with the availability and record prices for energy on the world markets, today we are meeting the second ship with coal from the USA. In the coming days, it will replenish the reserves of our thermal power plants and will ensure the stability of the Ukrainian energy system during peak periods,” the press service quotes the words of DTEK Energy CEO Ildar Saleev.

A day earlier, 60.5 thousand tons of coal had already been delivered to Ukraine for the needs of the state company Centrenergo by sea. It will be sent to Uglegorskaya, Zmievskaya, and Tripolskaya thermal power plants.

Three more vessels will arrive for DTEK in December. The total volume of deliveries in November – January is planned at the level of about 470 thousand tons. The total volume of coal contracted by the company from Poland, the USA, and Kazakhstan is more than 0.9 million tons. Negotiations are underway on additional fuel supplies, DTEK assured earlier.

Coal shortage in Ukraine

At the moment, Ukraine is experiencing an acute shortage of coal at power plants, which may threaten rolling blackouts. First Deputy Head of the Ministry of Energy Yuriy Vlasenko on November 11 stated that the main imports of coal to Ukraine this heating season will come from the United States and Poland. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal said on November 16 that Kyiv expects the arrival of seven ships with coal in late November – early December. The country’s President, Vladimir Zelensky, claimed that this would be enough for the country’s energy sector until the end of this year.
