The Taliban captured the Afghan city of Kandahar, Associated Press reports.

According to sources in the Afghan government, the city was captured on Thursday.

The office of the governor, the headquarters of the security forces, and other institutions are under the control of the Taliban*, the agency notes.

The situation in Afghanistan worsened after the U.S. and NATO countries began withdrawing troops from the territory of the republic on May 1, which is taking place within the framework of the peace agreement signed in 2020 between the Taliban and US representatives.
