The weight of the gem is 1174 kg.

An incredibly large and white diamond weighing 1,174 carats was mined in Botswana, the mining company said.

A diamond the size of a human palm was discovered on June 12 by the Canadian diamond mining company Lucara and presented to the country’s cabinet of Ministers in the capital Gaborone.

“We have witnessed history – both for ourselves and for Botswana,” said Nasim Lahri, managing director of the company, noting that the diamond found ranks third among the largest precious stones in the world.

The largest diamond in the world weighing 3106 carats was found in South Africa in 1905. Parts of this diamond adorn the royal regalia of the British crown.
