“This promising type of drug can accelerate our exit from the pandemic, providing another life-saving opportunity for people with COVID-19,” said U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra.

If the deal is approved by regulatory authorities, Pfizer will begin supplying the drug at the end of 2021.

Pfizer’s Paxlovid is available in tablet form. According to data obtained after the second phase of trials, the drug reduces the risk of hospitalization or death after infection with COVID-19 by 89%. According to the manufacturer, no deaths were recorded among the test participants.
