The United States returned to the Council, from which it withdrew under Donald Trump.
The United States has questions for the UN Human Rights Council, including in connection with its “disproportionate” attention to Israel, State Department spokesman Ned Price said after the United States was re-elected to the Council.
“We have questions for the Council. We will strongly oppose the Council’s disproportionate attention to Israel, which includes the only permanent agenda item aimed at a specific country,” Price said.
He added that the United States would also oppose the election to the Council of countries where “egregious violations of human rights” are committed.
