According to a statement from the Department of State, the Biden administration wants to double the number of refugees accepted by the United States annually to 125,000 during the next fiscal year, which begins on October 1.

The statement says that the U.S. Foreign Ministry will consult with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Congress to remove the restriction, which was set for this fiscal year at the level of 62,500 people.
