The diplomat recalled that Washington and Moscow held three meetings within the framework of this dialogue. “The last meeting was an emergency, aimed at preventing this terrible situation. We actually had quite a constructive discussion, my consulting partner was [Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation] Sergey Ryabkov. But in the end, the president [of Russia Vladimir] Putin chose war instead of diplomacy,” Sherman added.
