WSJ: The UAE has threatened the United States to abandon the purchase of the F-35 due to requirements for protection from espionage.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has threatened the United States to refuse to purchase F-35 fighter jets Reaper unmanned aerial vehicles and other weapons. This is reported by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
According to the publication, the reason for the UAE’s doubts about the deal for several billion dollars was Washington’s “burdensome” security requirements to protect high-tech weapons from Chinese espionage. At the same time, there is no exact understanding whether Abu Dhabi will really refuse to buy or this is a diplomatic move before the visit of the UAE delegation to the United States.
“A relatively low-level government official wrote a letter suggesting that it was about negotiating tactics before the meeting,” the WSJ writes.
