The Libyan House of Representatives yesterday expressed a vote of confidence in the new interim government of the country.
The United States, Britain, France, Germany, and Italy welcomed the vote results in the Libyan House of Representatives and the decision of lawmakers to express a vote of confidence in the cabinet of the interim Government of National Unity under the leadership of the Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dabaiba. This is stated in the message of the State Department.
The meeting of the Libyan House of Representatives was held from 8 to 10 March in Sirte.
The United States and leading Western countries called the vote of confidence issued to the government of Dabaiba “a fundamental step towards the unification of Libyan political institutions and a comprehensive political solution to the crisis that Libya and its people are experiencing.” Western powers have pledged to continue supporting Libyans through the Berlin Process and the help of the UN and other partner countries.
The West appreciated the statement of the current Prime Minister Sarraj, who expressed his readiness to transfer power and all powers to the new interim government.
The interim Government will prepare for free and fair presidential and parliamentary elections in united Libya, held on December 24. After the elections, will hand over power to democratically elected leaders of the country. Also, the Government will seek full implementation of the armistice agreement concluded on 23 October 2020 and begin the national reconciliation process
The United States, France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom “welcome the withdrawal of foreign troops and mercenaries from the area around Gardabya Airport, which allowed House of Representatives members to attend the parliamentary session in Sirte,” the statement said.
Western powers expressed hope that the ceasefire agreement will be fully implemented and all foreign fighters and mercenaries involved in the conflict will be withdrawn from Libya.
