The United States believes that the “Nord stream-2” gas pipeline threatens the energy security of Ukraine and Europe, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent said in an interview on Tuesday.
The diplomat is on a visit to Ukraine.
“The United States considers “Nord stream-2″ a bad thing. This is bad for Ukraine, bad for the energy security of Europe. Germany says: they are the leaders of Europe. We say: please, what will you do, as the leaders of Europe, so that Russia does not use gas as a weapon against Ukraine and Eastern Europe? This is our principled position. In a week, the Chancellor (Angela Merkel) will be in Washington. Therefore, we will see what will happen in a week,” Kent said.
