The United States is aware that three American citizens were detained in Haiti as part of the investigation into the murder of the president of this country, they will be provided with the necessary consular assistance, State Department spokesman Ned Price said on Monday.
“We have become aware of the detention of a third US citizen… We continue to closely monitor the situation. As in other cases, we will provide consular assistance to detained American citizens,” Price said during a regular briefing.
Last week, the Washington Post newspaper, citing the Minister for Voting and Inter-Party Relations of Haiti, Mathias Pierre, wrote that among the detainees in the case of the murder of the head of the country was an American of Haitian origin named James Solage. Another detainee, according to the minister, could also be an American of Haitian origin.
