First of all, we are talking about those whose family members already live in the States.

The United States intends to accept up to 100 thousand refugees from Ukraine, primarily those whose family members already live in the United States. This is stated in a statement issued by the White House on Thursday.

“Although we expect that many Ukrainians will decide to stay in Europe closer to their families and homes in Ukraine, the United States today announces plans to accept up to 100 thousand Ukrainians and others fleeing from Russian aggression in accordance with the available legal grounds, including through the use of a refugee reception program. We pay special attention to the development of new programs aimed at receiving Ukrainians whose family members already live in the United States. The United States and the European Union are closely coordinating so that efforts in this direction, as well as other forms of assistance to refugees, complement each other and provide assistance to Ukraine’s neighbors in need of it,” the statement says.
