The new sanctions are aimed at Iranian security officials and officials who were involved in the rocket attack on military bases in Iraq.
The United States on Friday announced new sanctions against Iran. Secretary of state Mike Pompeo and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin reported this during a press briefing at the White House.
According to Mnuchin, the new sanctions against the Iranian regime were imposed as punishment for the attack carried out by Tehran on Tuesday against American troops in Iraq. The sanctions will affect senior Iranian officials and security officials who were involved in the rocket attack on military bases in Iraq, Mnuchin added.
Mike Pompeo said that the US had information about an immediate threat from Iran against American facilities, including US diplomatic missions.
As Mnuchin explained, the US Treasury will provide a temporary exemption from the need to comply with the sanctions regime to all who will participate in the investigation of the crash of the Ukrainian “Boeing” near Tehran. The plane of the Ukrainian airline UIA, en route from Tehran to Kyiv, crashed shortly after takeoff. The Boeing took off from Tehran’s international airport shortly after Iran launched a rocket attack on military bases in Iraq.
