The US is supporting Greece in extinguishing fires

According to the Sixth Fleet of the US Navy, the United States is supporting Greece in extinguishing the fires raging in the country.

“In response to the request of the Greek government for air surveillance support, the forces of the Sixth Fleet are contributing to the work of extinguishing fires in Greece,” the fleet said in a Twitter message.

According to the US Embassy in Greece, an American Boeing P-8 patrol plane is involved in extinguishing the fires.

Fire aviation, including the Russian Be-200 amphibious aircraft, is actively involved in eliminating all major fires in Greece. They usually coordinate the fire-fighting work from helicopters.

In Greece, there is a 40-degree heatwave for ten days. Dozens of forest fires occur every day in all regions of the country. The fire is raging most strongly in the metropolitan region of Attica, on the island of Euboea about 70 kilometers from Athens and in the Peloponnese in the area of Ilia, where the birthplace of the Olympic Games, Ancient Olympia, is located.
