Athletes from the US national team did not win medals on the first competitive day of the Summer Olympic Games for the first time since 1972, USA Today reports.

The opening ceremony of the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo took place on Friday, and on Saturday the first 11 sets of medals are being played at the tournament. American athletes took part in five sports on July 24: weightlifting, cycling, archery, pistol shooting, and rifle shooting. Athletes from the USA failed to win medals in one of the competitions.
