Washington has banned the group travel of American citizens to Cuba for educational purposes, as well as the export to the country of passenger ships and private aircraft.
The US has tightened sanctions against Cuba. On Tuesday, June 4, according to the office of foreign assets control (OFAC) of the US Treasury, which submitted amendments to the relevant documents. According to them, there is a ban on group travel of American citizens to Cuba for educational purposes.
In addition, there will no longer be licensed for the export of private aircraft and passenger ships to Cuba. The new measures will come into force on June 5.
The US accused Cuba of destabilizing the situation in the region
“Cuba continues to play a destabilizing role in The Western hemisphere, strengthening the position of the Communists in the region, inflating the hotbed of instability, undermining the rule of law, democratic processes and thus providing more or less support to such enemies of the United States as Venezuela and Nicaragua,” said the head of the US Treasury Steven Mnuchin. According to him, the new measures are aimed at “preventing US dollars from falling into the hands of the army, intelligence services, and law enforcement agencies of Cuba.”
The tightening of sanctions against Cuba is provided for by the US President’s Act on national security, which Donald Trump signed on June 16, 2017, is further indicated in the OFAC report.
