TEL AVIV – The United States will expand sanctions against Iran. The head of the US Treasury Department Steven Mnuchin stated on Monday during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem.

“We are exerting maximum pressure through sanctions. They worked, and they work, they block the flow of money,” Free News quoted Mnuchin as saying. “We will continue to intensify in this area more and more,” the Finance Minister said.

Netanyahu, addressing Mnuchin, said that “Iran is a real threat to peace in the Middle East.” “I call on the United States to impose additional sanctions (against Iran), ” state-run Israeli radio Kan quoted the Prime Minister as saying.

Mnuchin responded by noting that he “just came from a very productive working lunch” with Netanyahu’s team. “The Israeli Prime Minister’s team gave us some special ideas that will be studied,” he continued.

Mnuchin arrived Monday in Israel along with a senior adviser and son-in-law of President Donald Trump, Jared Kushner. On Tuesday, according to The Jerusalem Post, the American delegation will travel from Israel to Saudi Arabia, where it will attend an economic conference in Riyadh.
