The US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told Congress that the Agency has not decided to provide a report on the tax deductions of the President Donald Trump yet, the AP said, citing a statement by Mr. Mnuchin. According to the Agency, the Ministry of Finance will consult with the Ministry of justice on this issue and “carefully” consider the request. Earlier Democrats demanded to provide these materials till April 10.
“The legal implications of this request could affect the privacy of all Americans from politically motivated disclosures of personal tax information, regardless of which party is in power”, the Minister said in a statement. He noted that the Agency respects the Supervisory duties of legislators and will ensure that the personal security of taxpayers’ data was “strictly observed in accordance with my statutory duties”. Mr. Mnuchin noted “the unprecedented nature of such a request”.
Earlier, the head of the budget Committee of the House of representatives Richard Neal sent a letter to the US Tax service, in which he asked to provide his Committee with Donald Trump’s tax reports for the last six years. This is the first such request from the Committee regarding the incumbent President in 45 years. And the Committee wants to see both the personal accounts of Donald Trump and his companies.
So far, the President has refused to submit his tax returns to the Committee, explaining that they are “on check” with the Tax service. After he was informed of the Democrats’ demands, the President asked, “Is that all they want? In General, they usually ask for reports for ten years, so I think they are already surrendering”.
