Turkey will face us sanctions if it receives Russian anti-aircraft missile systems S-400. This was stated on Wednesday at a briefing by the official representative of the US state Department Morgan Ortagus.
“We are ready to cooperate with the Turkish government, but our position remains the same: Turkey will face very real and very negative consequences if it completes the supply of S-400,” she said.
The consequences include the suspension of procurement of the F-35 and the participation of Turkish industry in the program for this fighter, as well as the possibility of application of the law on sanctions CAATSA, she said.
“It’s very serious, it’s very real, and I think that our position remains quite consistent,” she added.
US President Donald Trump on the same day discussed the issue of S-400 by phone with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Director of the press service of the President of Turkey Fahrettin Altun said on Twitter that during the telephone conversation R. T. Erdogan again proposed to create a joint Turkish-American working group on the purchase of Russian air defense systems by Ankara.
