The President of the United States Donald Trump accused his predecessor in the post of head of state Barack Obama of treason.
According to Trump, in 2016, his election campaign was monitored.
“This is high treason. Look, when I spoke a long time ago, I said that they were spying on our company. They were listening; it was said in quotation marks and meant modern methods of wiretapping. They were spying on my company. I said this a long time ago. As it turns out, I was right,” the President said in an interview with CBN News.
Trump has repeatedly accused intelligence agencies of spying on his campaign. In 2016-2017, under Obama, the investigation against the then-presidential candidate was led by the FBI. It was code-named the crossfire Hurricane. Investigators were trying to find out whether trump colluded with the Russian authorities to win the election. Later, the same issue was investigated by independent special prosecutor Robert Mueller, who, in the spring of 2019, concluded that there was no evidence of such collusion.
Russia and trump have categorically denied the charges, and the US President believes they are politically motivated.
