US President Donald Trump said on Monday that the United States is introducing new sanctions against Iran. This decision was made against the backdrop of escalating tensions between the two countries.
As Trump told reporters, the sanctions, which, in particular, will affect Iran’s top leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, are a response to Tehran’s strike on an American drone that was shot down last week.
Immediately after the President signed the decree on the imposition of sanctions, Finance Minister Steven Mnuchin specified their content, naming, among other things, the names of a number of Iranian officials and military figures included in the sanctions list.
