US President Donald Trump has entrusted his son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner to lead the construction of a wall on the border with Mexico, reports the Washington Post, citing sources.

Transfer project management to Kushner Trump forced the “lack of progress” in the construction, according to the publication. Every two weeks, Kushner holds meetings at the White House, at which officials present reports on the progress of construction and the distribution of costs. Kushner, in turn, passes on the President’s instructions to them.

According to the newspaper, Kushner demanded that 30 to 35 miles (48 to 56 kilometers) of barriers be erected before the spring of the month so that a 450-mile (about 724 kilometers) section would be completed by the end of 2020.

Trump has previously stated that the entire 500-550-mile wall will be built by the next election in 2020. The Trump administration has said it will take about $ 3.6 billion to build new fences on the border with Mexico from other budget items. Trump took advantage of the announcement of the state of emergency on the border, which allows you to use the funds already allocated by Congress for other purposes.

Trump took unilateral steps after a series of failed attempts to get Congress to fund the construction of the wall. Because of these disagreements in early 2019, the Federal government lived for more than a month without an approved budget, which led to the reduction of the work of several ministries and departments.

Building a wall on the border to prevent illegal immigration was one of Trump’s major campaign promises.
