US President Donald Trump said on Twitter that US authorities have abandoned the idea of holding a G7 summit at his Trump National Doral Miami golf resort.
“We will no longer consider Trump National Doral as a venue for the G7 in 2020. We will start looking for another place immediately,” he wrote, noting that the authorities will explore the possibility of holding the summit at the country residence of US President, Camp David.
According to Trump, he believed that using his complex to house the leaders of the G7 countries “would be something very good for the country” as it is large, located near the Miami airport, has a large number of rooms for business meetings, as well as other advantages.
“I have announced that I am ready to do it without profit or, if it is permissible by law, free of charge for the United States,” the head of state wrote. According to trump, “as always, the hostile media and their democratic partners have gone crazy.”
The day before, White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham explained that if held in Doral, the summit “would be significantly cheaper for taxpayers and foreign guests.”
Trump’s Golf club Trump National Doral Miami belongs to the President of the United States and is located 13 kilometers from Miami airport.
The G7 summit, which will be attended by the leaders of Canada, the United States, France, Britain, Germany, Japan, Italy, as well as a representative of the EU, will be held on June 10-12, 2020.
