The former U.S. president did not respond to a request for comment on the publication.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump told the leader of the Republican minority in the House of Representatives of Congress Kevin McCarthy that he was partially responsible for the riots during the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021. This was reported on Friday by The New York Times newspaper with reference to a recording of a telephone conversation that came to its disposal.

“He is responsible for his words and actions. No ifs and buts. I personally asked him today if he was responsible for what happened, if he was sorry that it happened. He told me that he bears some responsibility for what happened and it will be necessary to admit it,” the publication quotes a fragment of an audio recording of McCarthy’s conversation. The newspaper claims that the recording was made during a conversation between McCarthy and other members of Congress from the Republican Party on January 11, 2021.

The publication clarified that the former president did not respond to a request for comment on the publication.
