The US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday night that he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit, which will be held in Japan next week.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said that he will hold meetings with Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Earlier this week, Trump confirmed that he is meeting with the Chinese leader.
“I want to get along with Russia and I think that we will get along. I want to get along with China and I think we’ll get along. I’m meeting with both leaders next week in Japan at the G20 summit,” Trump told Fox News.
Trump also noted that the deterioration of relations between the US and Russia contributed to the “witch hunt,” referring to the investigation of the alleged Moscow interference in the US elections, which was engaged in special Prosecutor Robert Mueller.
“We will have good relations with Russia, and we will have good relations with China. This is very important,” the American leader said.
Earlier, the Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that the schedule of bilateral talks of Putin on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Osaka is still being made up. There is no exact information about the meeting of the Russian leader with Trump yet.
“At the moment, we are just engaged in the formation of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit in Osaka,” he said on Wednesday, adding that on the topic of a possible meeting between Putin and Trump, the Kremlin “has no news yet, there is nothing specific to say.”
