The President criticized an article in the New York Times that the agreement allegedly did not include new major commitments from Mexico City.
US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that his administration will unveil additional details of the agreement with Mexico, and rejected media reports that Mexico allegedly did not take on any new serious commitments to stop the flow of migrants from Central America, which are moving to the southern border of the United States.
“Mexico was not being cooperative on the Border in things we had or didn’t have, and now I have full confidence, especially after speaking to their President yesterday, that they will be very cooperative and want to get the job properly done,” Trump wrote on Twitter.
“It is important to note that some points, including one special, which we agreed, were not mentioned in yesterday’s press release. This will be announced in due course,” he added, without going into details.

The agreement, which was announced on Friday, after three days of negotiations in Washington, eliminated the threat of introducing 5 percent duties on all imports from Mexico on Monday, which Trump warned.
The agreement extends the controversial program, in which migrants seeking asylum in the United States are sent to Mexico for the period of consideration of their cases. The agreement also provides for the strengthening of border protection.
Trump disagreed with the article in the New York Times, which said that the agreement consisted of obligations that Mexico had already assumed earlier. The President called the publication “false.”
Referring to representatives of both countries familiar with the negotiations, the newspaper reported on Sunday that the expansion of the program allowing asylum seekers to stay in Mexico was agreed in December.
The newspaper also wrote that in March Mexico agreed to deploy a National Guard throughout the country, giving priority to the southern border.
“We have been trying to achieve some of these actions at the border for a long time, like other administrations, but we did not succeed or succeed not complete until we signed an agreement with Mexico,” Trump wrote on Twitter.
