The Turkish Foreign Ministry said that “they were surprised to meet the statement of Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.”
Turkey does not intend to assume the international obligations of other countries and accept a new wave of migrants after the aggravation of the situation in Afghanistan. This is stated in a statement issued on Monday by the official representative of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Tanju Bilgic.
“We were surprised by the statement of Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, who called Turkey the “most suitable place” for Afghan refugees,” the diplomat stressed. – In no case will Turkey assume the international obligations of third countries and will not accept a new wave of migration. We inform our partners about this at all levels, noting that Turkey will not become an EU border guard or a camp for those who seek asylum.”
Earlier, Kurz, in an interview with Bild newspaper, expressed the opinion that refugees from Afghanistan need to flee either to safe areas of their country or to Turkey. According to the Austrian Chancellor, this option will be better than trying to find asylum in Austria, Germany, or Sweden.
