Gutmann’s candidacy was supported by 54 legislators.

The Senate of the U.S. Congress at a meeting approved Amy Gutmann for the post of U.S. ambassador to Germany. According to the press service of the Senate, 54 legislators supported Gutmann’s candidacy, 42 more opposed it.

U.S. President Joe Biden nominated 72-year-old Gutmann to this post in the summer of 2021. Gutmann is a political appointee, not a career diplomat. Since 2004, she has served as President of Penn State University.
