The UN Secretary-General “is concerned about the decision of the Russian Federation regarding the status of certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine. He calls for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine in accordance with the Minsk agreements, which were supported by Security Council resolution 2202.” This is stated in a statement by the press secretary of the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric.
“The Secretary General considers the decision of the Russian Federation to be a violation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and contradicts the principles of the Charter of the United Nations,” he said.
“The Secretary-General urges all parties to focus their efforts to ensure an immediate cessation of hostilities, the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure and to prevent any actions and statements that could further aggravate the dangerous situation in and around Ukraine,” the statement said.
