BBC reporters found COVID-19 vaccines, vaccine passports and fake negative tests on the darknet. Prices range from $ 500 to $ 750 for doses of AstraZeneca, Sputnik, Sinopharm, and Johnson & Johnson. Fake vaccination certificates are also sold by anonymous vendors for as little as $150.
The researchers noted that they noticed a dramatic increase in advertising of vaccines on the dark web. However, BBC journalists were unable to verify whether these are real vaccines. They noted that the number of advertisements they saw has tripled to over 1,200.
Vaccine sellers appear to live in the US, UK, Spain, Germany, France and Russia. The team found several ads in both Russian and English.
Another ad on a hacker forum offers to buy fake negative tests. “We’re doing negative Covid tests for travelers or getting jobs. Buy two negative tests and get the third one for free! ”- the ad says.
Researchers have found several sellers offering to buy fake documents, including those for the UK. They need to be paid with bitcoin.
When the reporters contacted the seller, they were told to provide the names and dates of the vaccinations.
