Gabe Newell doesn’t think it’s a good idea for Valve to introduce any subscription options. However, if Microsoft wants to extend Game Pass to Steam, the company is ready to actively help in this.

For some time now, Xbox has stopped selling its games exclusively through its own store and began to release them, including on Steam. Most recently, Bethesda, which is part of Microsoft, announced that it was ditching its own launcher and moving all of its games to Steam. However, the Game Pass subscription program is still only available through Xbox launchers.

If Xbox decides to take the next step, it won’t be unique. In 2020, Electronic Arts added its own EA Play subscription to Steam. In the meantime, Valve and AMD are tackling the latest driver compatibility issues to make it possible to install Windows on Steam Deck.
