American Minnesota Wild striker Marcus Foligno smashed the face of Russian San Jose Sharks defender Nikolai Knyzhov during a National Hockey League (NHL) regular season match.
The fight took place at the end of the first period of the meeting. Foligno hit Knizhov on the helmet mask, causing the Russian to be cut. After that, the arbitrators managed to stop the scuffle. Both players were sent off and received a five-minute penalty. The match ended with the victory of “Minnesota” with a score of 6: 2.
For 22-year-old Knizhov, the fight with an American opponent was the first in his NHL career. He signed with San Jose in the summer of 2019. This season, the Russian played 17 matches with the team and made two assists.
Minnesota is sixth in the Western Division standings with 18 points in 15 games. The Sharks are in seventh place with 16 points after 17 games.
