The mission team created an animation of the Juno spacecraft flying over Jupiter’s moon Ganymede.
The published video begins with Juno approaching Ganymede, passing 1038 km from the surface at a speed of 67 thousand km/h).
The images show several dark and light regions of the Moon, as well as Tros Crater, which is one of the largest and brightest crater scars on Ganymede.
On June 7, 2021, NASA’s Juno spacecraft flew closer to Jupiter’s ice-covered moon Ganymede than any other spacecraft in more than two decades. Less than a day later, Juno completed its 34th circumnavigation of Jupiter.
Among the atmospheric features of Jupiter that can be seen:
- circumpolar cyclones at the North Pole,
- eight powerful counterclockwise storms in the southern hemisphere that appear as white ovals.
