Earlier, Brian Deese said that inflation will be a short-term problem.
White House economic adviser Brian Deese said on Sunday that rising prices are a global problem caused by the coronavirus pandemic and not a consequence of President Joe Biden’s policies.
Biden and his top economic advisers, including Deese, have been saying for months that inflation will be a short-term problem.
Answering the question of the host on CNN, whether they were wrong, Deese said: “No, I don’t think so. I think we have consistently said that the pandemic and the economy are interconnected.”
Deese defended the Biden administration’s policies on several Sunday news programs after consumer price increases accelerated in October. Annual growth reached the largest level in 31 years amid disruptions in global supply chains.
“Undoubtedly, inflation is high now. It hits the pockets of Americans. This affects their prospects,” he said on NBC.
“However, it is important to consider this in context,” stressed Deese. “When the president took office, we faced a general economic crisis.”
