Experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) have suggested that a new type of coronavirus could occur due to the mass trade in animals in China, Bloomberg reports.
The agency said the report is due to be published this week, in the preparation of which WHO experts who had previously visited Wuhan participated.
The report, according to Bloomberg, will provide a version according to which the new coronavirus may be similar in origin to the virus that causes severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). Its original carriers were bats; it passed to humans through small mammals – the Himalayan civets.
British zoologist Peter Dassak was one of the scientists who visited Wuhan. The path that SARS has traveled, according to him, was possible for SARS-CoV-2.
Scientists also doubt the artificial origin of the virus, they do not support the version about the appearance of COVID-19 due to a leak from the laboratory.
However, these results will not be final, experts will conduct additional checks, including outside the PRC, in order to establish the pathways of the spread of the coronavirus.
