Negative indicators are growing again in America and Europe.

The World Health Organization has confirmed the inability of the initial stage of the global coronavirus vaccination campaign to stop the spread of the disease. The WHO noted that a number of developed countries recorded a decline in morbidity and mortality after the start of vaccination, but new strains reversed the trend. The organization, however, insists on the need to continue and strengthen the campaign and emphasizes the importance of supplying vaccines to countries experiencing shortages in them.

The head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Ghebreyesus, said that the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic is beginning in the world. During his speech at the meeting of the emergency committee, he said that due to vaccination, morbidity and mortality in Europe and North America initially decreased, but now the trend has changed.

“Now we are at the early stage of the third wave,” he said.

Gebreyesus pointed out that last week was the fourth in a row, during which the number of new cases of infection is growing. The main reason he called the spread of the “delta” strain, which, according to WHO calculations, will become the dominant mutation.

The head of the WHO also drew attention to the uneven distribution of vaccines: many states still do not have drugs, in most states there are not enough of them. Gebreyesus called on governments to vaccinate at least 10% of their population

by September. By the end of the year, according to him, the figure of 40% should be reached, by the middle of the next – 70%.
