Volodymyr Zelenskiy appealed to Swiss President Ignazio Cassis with a request to organize a peace conference in Geneva to resolve the situation in Ukraine; its goal should first of all be a ceasefire, the Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger reported on Sunday.
According to the publication, Zelenskiy voiced his request during a telephone conversation with the Cassis on Saturday. It is reported that diplomatic efforts to organize negotiations are being used “in full swing.”
“The immediate goal (of the conference) could be to achieve a ceasefire,” the newspaper writes, adding that a corresponding request on Saturday was received from Zelenskiy to Swiss President Ignazio Cassis. “This request authorizes Switzerland to act as a neutral mediator officially and in accordance with international law,” the newspaper reports.
According to her information, “apparently, negotiations are also underway with the Russian side.”
