The first GEFCO carbon-neutral train was launched. He travels from Dunajska Streda, Slovakia, to Xi’an, China.
This train is the first carbon-neutral transport to be launched on the New Silk Road. The company is offsetting 250 tons of CO2 from the supply chain.
To ensure tracking and control of movement, temperature and product integrity during transportation, the train is equipped with Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
There is a growing market demand for sustainable services, especially in the area of long distance transport. We consider the environmental impact of the products and services used, reorganize them to minimize emissions and offer offset solutions for all carbon emissions. Railways are a very good way to reduce your carbon footprint.
Alice Defranou, GEFCO Railway Manager
The three-week journey along the New Silk Road includes a stage from Slovakia to the Brest-Malashevichi border crossing on the Polish-Belarusian border, where goods are reloaded from European railway cars to Russian ones, designed for the 1520 mm railway track.
Then the block train will travel through Belarus and Russia and arrive at Alashankou-Dostyk, the border point between China and Kazakhstan and the main link of the Eurasian land bridge on the border with Xinjiang. After that, the goods will be loaded onto Chinese wagons and sent to their final destination – Xi’an.
