Last year, ZTE introduced the Axon 20 5G, the world’s first smartphone with a sub-screen front camera. And now a new technology is ready for release.

ZTE mobile business president Ni Fei announced on social media that the company will unveil the second generation of the under-screen selfie camera at the MWC in Shanghai. He did not name the exact date, but the exhibition itself will be held from 23 to 25 February.

The new camera will use structured light technology under the screen, he said. We hope the quality of shooting will improve, because Axon 20 has problems with this: according to the DxOMark test results, it took only the second place from the end of the rating, gaining several times less points compared to competitors.

The first smartphone to receive a second-generation camera is expected to be the Axon 30 Pro. Unlike the Axon 20, which has a Snapdragon 765G processor, it should get the top-end Snapdragon 888 processor, which means it will be a full-fledged flagship.
